Commerce Township is in Oakland County located in the southeast corner of the state of Michigan. Bordering townships include White Lake, Waterford, West Bloomfield, Farmington, Novi, Lyon, Milford and Highland. The city of Detroit is just 40 miles southeast of Commerce, a 45-minute drive away. The states of Ohio and Indiana border Michigan to the southwest, with Illinois and Wisconsin nearby to the west and Toronto, Canada to the northeast.

Commerce is largely made up of scenic rolling hills with wooded forests, and interspersed with large expanses of flat lands. The roads of Commerce wind through the picturesque terrain around the beautiful lakes providing great views for the entire family to enjoy. There are 28 lakes totaling 1,704 acres within Commerce’s township limits including: Long Lake, Lower Straits Lake, Bass Lake, Moss Lake, North Commerce Lake, Proud Lake, Reed Lake and Sherwood Lake. Commerce rests 909 miles feet above sea level and encompasses a total of 29.8 square miles, with 2.3 square miles of water.

You can’t beat the lakeside views of Reed Lake, adjacent to the Richardson Community Center and Park which is home to the only natural prairie land east of the Mississippi River. The Community Center is open to the public for such events as weddings and parties. The Senior Center offers regular social occasions / special events and organizes both day and extended trips for all residents 50 years of age and up.
Explore Maple Glen, offering over 100 acres of beautiful parkland including well-cared-for pathways and trails. Maple Glen is the proud home of 2 baseball leagues – the Interlakes Girls Softball League and the Commerce Little League – each league built their own baseball diamonds fundraising the monies themselves and using the volunteer labor and help of their family and friends.
Commerce’s pride and joy is Proud Lake State Recreation Area. Located on the beautiful and scenic Huron River, Proud Lake State Recreation Area offers more than 4,700 acres of fun and recreation for the entire family. Special Attractions/Events
A main attraction in the township of Commerce is the Long Family Orchard and Farm, where you can pick your own fresh grown strawberries, cherries, pumpkins, gourds and apples. Come and enjoy such treats as caramel apples or chocolate covered berries. Tours are offered on the weekends, and there is a petting farm for “kids” of all ages.
Another popular attraction is the Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame located in nearby Novi. This special museum houses and showcases race cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and even snowmobiles!
